Article about my work in the VN

Feb 1, 2020

The Austrian newspaper VN interviewed me about my films and my career as an author, director and actress

Here are some excerpts from the article "The Creator of Worlds":

Isabella Freilinger successfully directs film projects. Stories have fascinated Isabella Freilinger since her childhood. "First in the form of Punch and Judy, which I played with my little brother as a child," recalls the now 28-year-old. Later, her passion manifested itself on the theater stage. And today, stories are the foundation of her profession. The young woman is a filmmaker with high standards: "Even the best equipment cannot replace a good story, which is the basis for everything," the Bludenz native is convinced.

Most recently, she has produced documentary series: "Among other things, about environmental activists and one of the first Black ballet dancers in German television ballet, and vegan nutrition," the 28-year-old enthuses. After graduating from HAK Bregenz, Isabella Freilinger, who currently lives in Heidelberg, studied cultural studies at the University of Mannheim, specializing in film and theater. She's currently working on a new dramatic comedy in a series format: "The inspiration for new ideas and stories comes from everywhere," says the filmmaker with a laugh. She is responsible for the production, from the concept, script, production, to the finished film. "The great thing is not only that I've turned my hobby into my profession, but above all that I can always work with great people. Without them, it wouldn't be possible."

Films travel the world
"The funny thing is that my films have now traveled further around the world than I have myself," says Isabella Freilinger with a grin. Her feature films have already been shown at festivals in Europe, Russia, South Africa, Asia, and the USA. Her feature film "Dancing with Monsters" won the award for Best Screenplay at the Mostra Cinema Taranto Festival in Italy
and was screened as one of the best European films of the year at the Cineeuropa Festival in Spain.

The successful Bludenz native's favorite film, who enjoys doing yoga or being out in nature in her free time, is "Laurence Anyways" by Canadian director Xavier Dolan.
