Film & Live Performance: "Now"

Jul 19, 2024

I'm looking forward to staging "Now" in Heidelberg in cooperation with the German State Philharmonic, the City of Heidelberg, and the MFG Baden-Württemberg. We're creating a space full of creativity and asking: How are we doing in the face of the environmental crisis, and what visions do we have for a more sustainable community?

This year, I'm especially excited to be staging the immersive production "Now" in Heidelberg. Save the date: the production will be on display in Heidelberg from July 19th to 21st. You can expect an art exhibition for all the senses, a film, a live performance, and plenty of exciting discussions.

Why this production?

I remember the first time I learned about the climate crisis. I was 13 years old and watched a documentary alone. I cried the whole evening, not knowing how to deal with all the fear, anger, and sadness.

The more I talked to other people about it, the more I realized that almost all of us feel the same way. I found hope in the exchange and recognized it as an opportunity for change. Here, I want to create space for this:

Immerse yourself in the NOW with your body: By stimulating the senses, the audience should feel their own body. We are part of nature. Sustainability also means treating one's own body sustainably.

Celebrating the world's beauty, which is worth preserving: All art forms celebrate the beauty of nature through different perspectives.

Intercultural production: We bring together art and dance from different countries. Our artistic ensemble draws on its own cultural backgrounds in various European countries, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Asia.

Participation for people of all ages: In our theater-educational project, we bring together professionals as well as children, young people, and adults from Heidelberg in creative collaboration.

Exchange with the audience: What kind of society do we actually want to live in? Dialogue provides space for feelings, ideas, and visions of a beautiful and sustainable life. Energy for change can arise in community.

I am particularly excited to be staging this production together with choreographer Evelyne Krüger-Maitrel, the entire dance ensemble, and a team of incredibly exciting international artists. I'm also delighted that we were able to find an ideal venue for the performance in the Bahnstadt Community Center, thanks to the support of the Bahnstadt District Association.

At the premiere with the German State Philharmonic, the 800 spectators celebrated the production with minutes of standing ovations: children, teenagers, adults, and seniors. At the premiere, we showed the film and a live performance. Following its success, we continued to develop the production and also created a synesthetic art production, a larger performance, and an interactive workshop for our audience.
