My play was recognized as one of the best premieres in the history of the Bedlam Theatre in Edinburgh and has been revived. As a writer and director, I'm thrilled!
I look back fondly on my time at Bedlam Theatre in Edinburgh. Before my time at Bedlam, I had already written several plays that were staged in my home country of Austria. And I had acted in many other plays in Austria and Germany. But here at Bedlam Theatre I directed my first own play: “Water Wings”. It was an incredible experience to work with incredibly talented actresses and then to sit in the audience and hear people laugh and cry and tell each other their friendship stories after seeing the play about friendship. It was a wonderful first time as a director and it paved the way for me to write and direct my own plays and films. Now the play has premiered as one of the theatre's best premiered plays and has been restaged at an awards show. It was a truly wonderful time at the Bedlam Theatre. I particularly enjoy thinking back to my play "Worth Crying Over," which I wrote for the theatre. In it, we visit the mind of a depressed person in a comical way and delve into all his irrational fears, which ultimately leave him with only himself to see, and he has to break out of his mind (the theatre). The spirit of Bedlam has had a lasting impact on me as a writer and director, based on the motto: write it, stage it, be brave, and go for it!
